Deceval Impresses with 14th General Assembly in Cartagena, Colombia

ACSDA’s fourteenth General Assembly hosted by Deceval S.A. was held in Cartagena de Indias, the 16th century UNESCO World Heritage city on Colombia’s north coast.

The General Assembly brought together more than 80 delegates from 22 ACSDA member firms, expert speakers, sponsors, other friends and guests from as far away as Russia, China and Europe.

Deceval extended its ACSDA colleagues a most impressive welcome from March 28th to March 30th, as warmly expressed by Deceval’s Chief Executive, Jorge Hernan Jaramillo, ACSDA Vice-President and founding member of the Association.

For ACSDA members, the ambitious agenda started Wednesday morning with ACSDA’s Senior Leadership Summit, this time focusing on the Changing Demands of Risk Management on Market Infrastructures.  In this member forum, nearly 40 executives shared their experiences, and outlook, each having prepared advance 'homework' focusing on the internal and external pressures they face in managing  business impacts from new risks, new regulations, liquidity and credit demands, and product and resiliency skill challenges.  The intensive debate identified several compelling themes for further shared analysis.

The official General Assembly followed on Wednesday afternoon and included the approval and welcome ACSDA’s two newest members, Central de Valores Nacional S.A. (CVN) of Guatemala, and Bolsa de Valores y Productos de Asunción S.A. of Paraguay, reports on ACSDA’s activities during the past year, as well as to consider and approve ACSDA's themes, work-plan and budget for the coming year.

The Thursday and Friday agenda offered a rich slate of presentations from Colombian leaders, including Deceval’s Chairman Jaime Alonso Castañeda,  Joaquin Bernal of Banco de Republica, Financial Superintendent Gerardo Hernandez,  Juan Carlos Gonzalez of PROEXPORT Colombia and Juan Pablo Cordoba, President of the Bolsa de Valores de Colombia.  In addition, a host of industry experts also addressed the CPSS-IOSCO Principles, the new Legal Entity Identifier, Cross-Border Services and Regulatory and Risk Challenges Ahead and Information Security Issues.   These and other presentations are posted on the website under ACSDA Events, along with updates from ACSDA partner groups, CCP12, ISSA, SWIFT, and CSD12.

ACSDA wishes to thank our partners and sponsors again for all their generous support, and to especially thank Yanlong Wang and Xiaodong Song from China Securities Depository and Clearing (Chinaclear) and Boris Cherkasskiy of National Settlement Depository, Russia, who travelled so far to join our 14th General Assembly program.
