ACSDA Leadership Forum – Miami – 2013

ACSDA Senior Leadership Summit – Miami 2013

On December 5 and 6, Twenty-five executives and senior managers from 14 of ACSDA’s member CSDs met in Miami, Florida for a two-day Senior Leadership Summit. During two very full days, the group exchanged views and experiences in relation to four principle themes central to the business of CSDs.

The event kicked off on the first morning with a session lead by Isabela Perle Münch of BM&FBovespa, Brazil, which included several member presentations detailing how they were tackling the challenge of completing a self-assessment for their organizations against the CPSS/IOSCO Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures. A dynamic exchange ensued focusing on how the various organizations were evidencing compliance with the Principles, and how they were organizing remediation initiatives to address areas where they fell short of fully meeting the requirements of a Principle.

During the afternoon David Stanton of CDS in Canada delivered a very interesting and thought provoking presentation on “Determining your organization’s appetite for risk”. David introduced the concept and presented the group with a case study of CDS’s experience with determining their “risk appetite”. An active exchange ensued which carried on well past the scheduled end of the day.

During the second day Senior Summit participants had an opportunity to share their experiences in relation to the challenges and opportunities they see in expanding their business to new markets and customers. The day began with Daniel Thieke of DTCC leading discussions on the subject of International Collaboration and Expansion. Supported by a number of presentations from attendees the discussion focused on several subjects which included; depository linkages, trading and settlement link initiatives in South America, the Caribbean and Central America, foreign securities eligibility, trade repositories and the LEI (Legal Entity Identifier) initiative.

On Friday afternoon, the two days concluded with an interactive exchange on New Business Initiatives lead by Javier Jara of DCV Chile. The delegates looked at a variety of business initiatives that ACSDA member organizations were pursuing outside their “core business”, discussing how the initiatives were developed and strategies that were being utilized to move them forward.
